The Employability Skills curriculum is common to all the trades under the Craftsmen Training Scheme. The curriculum has been restructured to meet the demands of the industry. The number of hours of instruction of the Employability Skills training has been enhanced from 110 to 160 hours to provide a comprehensive training for ITI trainees. The Employability Skills content is to be imparted during the first year in all ITIs across the country to all trainees enrolled for trades of one-year and two-year duration. ITI trainees hail from socio-economically disadvantaged sections of the society. They have had little opportunities to develop language literacy and communication skills despite ten years of schooling. The ITI trainees will be equipped with the level appropriate proficiency in Behavioural Skills, English, IT, Communication skills by immersion in the learning process during the first year. The training shall help to: • effectively use basic IT literacy in tune with the current technological advancements • create opportunities to build communication repertoire to be able to communicate for professional, social and academic purposes • build life skills like critical thinking, problem solving and negotiation skills.
